Dental X-Rays
We keep our office equipped with the latest technology to provide better and safer treatments, including low emissions x-ray machines. We use these devices to gather images of your teeth and mouth to evaluate your oral health. Dental x-rays are just as important as your routine cleanings, as they can identify issues like tooth decay or cavities.
Why Would You Need a Dental X-Ray?
Patients typically receive dental x-rays once a year, but you may need them more often if your dentist is tracking a dental problem or treatment. Other factors, like your age and current oral health state, can determine how often you would need one as well. Below are a few reasons why patients would need an x-ray performed:
- Track treatment progress
- Examine current oral health
- Look for signs of oral disease
What to Expect
What to expect can slightly vary depending on the type of dental x-ray you’ll be receiving. It generally takes a few short minutes to get an x-day, but it may take longer if your dentist needs more images. Your hygienist will guide you through the entire process to make it as smooth as possible.
Are There Any Risks?
Radiation exposure from dental x-rays is very low, as these devices do not generate a lot of it. Your chances of exposure are even lower when we use digital x-rays. We still take extra precautions by placing a lead bib over your chest, abdomen, and pelvic region during an x-ray. We also advise pregnant women to consult a doctor before getting any kind of x-ray.
