Botox®
Botox® can do much more than give you a youthful appearance. It’s also a great way to help treat certain medical conditions and reduce the aches you might experience due to them. We’re proud to offer Botox® at La Cantera Dental Group to help our patients look and feel better!
How is Botox® Used in Dentistry?
Botox® has been used as an anti-aging solution by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Did you know it can have plenty of medical uses too? Botox® in dentistry can help with several issues, including TMJ issues or bruxism. It also offers several cosmetic advantages, including the anti-aging effects that make the treatment popular.
How Botox® Works
Botox® is a neurotoxin that targets the nervous system. These substances disrupt the nerve signaling process responsible for muscle contraction, temporarily paralyzing them. If you clench your jaw frequently, the relaxed muscles can eliminate headaches and other pains you may get because of it.
A Botox® treatment generally takes 10 minutes to complete, and there is little to no downtime afterward.
What to Expect After Treatment
After your Botox® injection, you should avoid rubbing or massaging the area for 24 hours. This prevents the substance from spreading to other areas of the body, impacting your results. Most patients can resume normal activities immediately after a Botox® treatment. The effects generally last about three months.
